Saint John the Apostle

John was a fisherman like his brother James and like Peter. They all worked for their father Zebedee. When Jesus called them, they left their boat right away. John was probably the youngest of the twelve apostles. The Bible calls him 'the disciple whom Jesus loved.' He was the only apostle who stayed at the foot of the Cross with Mary when Jesus died. From the Cross, Jesus said to John, 'Behold your mother,' and to Mary, 'Behold your son.' After that, John took care of Mary until she died. John lived longer than any other apostle. He wrote one of the four Gospels, three letters, and the Book of Revelation. He died as an old man in Ephesus — the only apostle who was not martyred.
