What Is the Rosary?
The Rosary is a meditative prayer centered on events in the lives of Jesus and Mary. It consists of five decades, each including one Our Father, ten Hail Marys, and one Glory Be, while meditating on a mystery of the faith. There are four sets of mysteries — Joyful, Sorrowful, Glorious, and Luminous — traditionally prayed on different days of the week.
The Rosary is not just repetition — it is contemplation. The repeated prayers create a rhythm that frees the mind to meditate deeply on the life of Christ. As St. Padre Pio said, the Rosary is “the weapon” given to us by Our Lady.
