The Agony in the Garden
Matthew 26:36–46; Luke 22:39–46
Jesus prays in agony the night before His death — and accepts His Father's will.
The Story
After the Last Supper, Jesus went with His apostles to a garden called Gethsemane on the Mount of Olives. He took Peter, James, and John deeper with Him and began to feel overwhelming sorrow. He fell on His face and prayed: 'Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from me. Yet not as I will, but as You will.' He sweated drops of blood. Then Judas came with soldiers to arrest Him.
The Lesson
Jesus felt afraid too. But He said yes to God even when it was hard. We can pray the same prayer: 'Not my will, but yours be done.'
