The Ascension
Acts 1:1–11; Luke 24:50–53
Forty days after Easter, Jesus returns to His Father in heaven.
The Story
For forty days after the Resurrection, Jesus appeared to His disciples, teaching them about the kingdom of God. On the fortieth day, He led them to the Mount of Olives. He told them to wait in Jerusalem for the Holy Spirit. Then He blessed them, and was taken up into heaven. Two angels said, 'This same Jesus will return in the same way you saw Him go.'
The Lesson
Jesus is with His Father in heaven — but He is also with us, always, through the Holy Spirit and the sacraments.
