Credo
The Nicene Creed, on Sundays and major feasts.
What happens
When prescribed, the priest returns to the middle of the altar and intones the Credo, then recites (or sings) it with hands extended, joined, or folded at the appropriate phrases. All genuflect at 'Et incarnatus est.'
Why it happens
The Creed is the Church's solemn profession of faith in the saving mysteries just proclaimed in the Gospel. The genuflection at the honors the mystery of God made man, at the heart of the Christian confession.
