What happens
When a sermon is given, it follows the Gospel. The priest removes the maniple and may preach from the pulpit or the altar steps.
Why it happens
Preaching expounds the Scriptures and forms the faithful in Christian doctrine. It was enjoined on pastors as a grave obligation to instruct the faithful in the mysteries of faith and the precepts of the moral life.
