Biography
St. Brigid of Kildare (c. 451–525) is one of the three patron saints of Ireland, along with St. Patrick and St. Columba. Born to a chieftain father and a slave mother, she showed extraordinary generosity from childhood — constantly giving away food, clothing, and possessions to the poor, sometimes to her father's exasperation. She founded a famous double monastery (men and women) at Kildare, which became one of the great centers of learning and art in medieval Ireland. She was known for miracles of provision — multiplying food and drink for those in need. St. Brigid's cross, woven from rushes, remains a popular symbol in Irish homes.
