St. Bartholomew

Biography
St. Bartholomew was one of the Twelve Apostles, traditionally identified with Nathanael from the Gospel of John — the disciple of whom Jesus said, 'Here is a true Israelite in whom there is no guile.' After Pentecost, tradition says he preached the Gospel in India, Mesopotamia, and Armenia. He is said to have been martyred in Armenia by being flayed alive (having his skin removed) and then beheaded or crucified. Because of his manner of death, he is the patron saint of tanners and those who work with skins and leather.
