Secret
A priestly prayer over the offerings, said silently.
What happens
After the Orate fratres and the server's response (Suscipiat Dominus), the priest reads the Secret (Super Oblata) in a low voice, concluding aloud with the 'Per omnia saecula saeculorum,' to which all answer '.'
Why it happens
The Secret is so called because it is prayed sotto voce — its silence expresses the hidden, sacred character of the offering now being presented to the Father. It asks that the gifts be accepted and made fruitful.
