Last Gospel
The Prologue of St. John, read at the Gospel side.
What happens
The priest goes to the Gospel side and reads the Prologue of St. John (In principio erat Verbum…), concluding at 'Et habitavit in nobis,' at which all genuflect. Another Gospel is read on certain occasions.
Why it happens
The Last Gospel sums up the whole mystery celebrated — the eternal Word made flesh, who has just been offered and received. Its proclamation at the end consecrates the return of the faithful to the world in the light of the .
