What happens
The priest breaks the Host (the Fraction), commingles a particle with the Precious Blood (Haec commixtio…), and prays the . At Solemn Mass he gives the Pax to the deacon, who transmits it to the subdeacon and others in choir. Three prayers (Domine Iesu Christe…) follow.
Why it happens
The Fraction and signify the unity of the risen Body and Blood of Christ. The and the Pax express communion in charity, necessary for fruitful reception of the Sacrament.
